Season Finale

The Tigers split their final league series with Cornell this past weekend.  They opened up with a 3-2 win at home, followed  by two losses, then ended with a 12-2 win on the road.  The series split forces Cornell to have to make up a doubleheader with Penn that was rained out the previous weekend.  Cornell has to win just one of those games to claim the Ivy South Divsion and play Harvard for the Ivy League title.

Megan Weidrick '11

Seniors Megan Weidrick and Michelle Tolfa contributed greatly to the Tigers' 3-2 win on Friday.  Cornell jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 5th inning off of 3 hits.  Weidrick lead off the 6th inning with a solo home run, her first of the season.  Lizzy Pierce singled to left field to lead off the bottom of the 7th.  Candy Button put down a sacrifice bunt to move her to second.  Maddie Coussens pinch hit with 2 outs and came up with the game tying RBI single.  The next two batters walked and the Tigers had a chance to win it, but Cornell was able to get a strikeout and strand the runners. 

Michelle Tolfa '11

In the bottom of the 8th Alex Peyton hit a single to right center then advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Pierce singled through the left side, scoring Peyton for the win.  Tolfa pitched all 8 innings, stiking out 3, scattering 7 htis and allowing only 2 runs.

Lizzy Pierce '13

In game two, Cornell built a 4-0 lead in the 1st inning off of starter Peyton.  The Tigers answered in the bottom of the 1st with 2 runs off a Pierce sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Button.  In the 2nd inning, Weidrick reached on a drop third strike.  Nicole Ontiveros followed with a single.  Tolfa then drew a pinch hit walk.  With the bases loaded, Kelsey VandeBergh hit a sacrifice fly to score Weidrick.  Peyton followed with an RBI single to tie it up 4-4. 

Candy Button '13

The Big Red answered in the 3rd inning, hitting a 2 run home run with 2 outs.  They added 3 more runs in the 5th off of 4 hits and a Tiger error.  The Tigers rallied for 2 more runs in the bottom of the 5th off a Pierce RBI single and a Button RBI ground out.  However, Cornell was able to shut down the offense for the final two innings. 

Kelsey VandeBergh '12

Sunday's doubleheader included a pair of lopsided games.  The Tigers dropped game three 14-1 in 5 innings.  The Big Red scored one run in the 1st then exploded for 9 runs in the 2nd inning off of 7 hits.  Princeton's lone run came in the 4th from a VandeBergh solo home run.  Cornell added 4 more runs in the bottom of the 4th to seal the win.

Sarah Rounsifer '13

In game four, it was the Tigers that piled on the runs.  After giving up a run in the 1st inning, Princeton rebounded with a Sarah Rounsifer 2 run home run to take the lead.  Peyton lead off the 4th inning with a single through the left side and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Couens then drew a walk and Tory Roberts followed with a bunt single to load the bases.  Rounsifer came up big with a 3 RBI double and Ontiveros followed with an RBI double to make the lead 6-1.

Maddie Cousens '14

Princeton did not let up, adding two more runs in the 6th inning off a Weidrick 2 run home run.  Then in the top of the 7th, VandeBergh lead off with a single and two batters later Cousens homered over left field.  Roberts followed with a double to left-center field.  Rounsifer then homered to right-center field; her fourth hit, second home run, and 7th RBI of the day.

Alex Peyton '13

Cornell was able to put one run across in the bottom of the 7th, but the Tigers came away with the 12-2 win.  Peyton pitched the complete game win, striking out 2, giving up 5 hits and one earned run.
