As junior year begins, our student athletes have narrowed their focus to a particular field of study. With course loads full of departmental requirements and junior papers, they are constantly challenged to excel in the classroom as well as on the field. The following exerts share our juniors’ majors and their favorite places to study on campus.
Nicole Ontiveros is an outfielder from Laguna Niguel, CA who has chosen Psychology as her field of study. She finds the many areas of psychology fascinating and especially relevant to everyday life. Nicole plans to become a doctor and feels that a psychology background will help better understand her future patients. Since she lives in a single, it’s her first choice to study because of the quiet and distraction free environment it provides. For a more social study setting she also enjoys going to the Whitman library.
Kelsey VandeBergh is an infielder from Beaverton, OR in the Civil Engineering department. Her focus is on Structures and Architecture, also known as Civ-Arc-Structures. She is interested in large scale structures and integrating sustainability into the architecture and structure of buildings. Her father is a civil engineer in water resources, and trips to his office as a little girl sparked her interest in the field. As an engineer, Kelsey has many problem sets due each week and has many different places to study. She enjoys doing work at her eating club, Quad, as well as in her room or at Frist. She also spends a lot of time studying in the Architecture Building due to her studio classes.
