Maryland Tournament

The Tigers ended their Spring Break trip going 3-2 at the Maryland tournament.  They opened up with a 12-0 win against Hampton in 5 innings.  Liza Kuhn picked up the win, striking out 4 and giving up 5 hits.  All nine batters in the line up got a hit.  The offense was lead by Sarah Rounsifer who went 2-3 with 3 RBI, Lizzy Pierce who went 2-3 with 2 RBI and Kelsey VandeBergh who went 2-3 with 2 RBI and her second home run of the season.

The Tigers then lost to host Maryland 6-0.  Alex Peyton took the loss on the mound, striking out 5, giving up 8 hits and only 1 earned run.  VandeBergh had Princeton's only hit in the game.

On Saturday, the Tigers beat Villanova 2-1 off solo home runs from Candy Button and VandeBergh.  The Tigers trailed 1-0 until the fourth inning when Button leadoff with a home run.  Michelle Tolfa pitched the win, giving up 4 hits and 0 earned runs.  The Tigers then dropped a tough game to Hampton who rallied in the top of the seventh to win 4-2.  The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third off a VandeBergh double.  Hampton then tied it up in the fifth with an unearned run.  Princeton scored another run in the sixth, taking a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning.  Alex Peyton took the loss, stiking out 9 and giving up 2 earned runs.

Princeton ended their trip with a 1-0 win over Utah.  The game was knotted up a 0-0 until the fifth inning when the Tigers broketrhough with a Pierce double, followed by a Rounsifer single to put them up 1-0.  That would be all the Tigers needed to secure the win.  Tolfa picked up the win, giving up only 3 hits and shutting down the Utes 7-7 times when they had runners in scoring position.

After the game, the Tigers were able to support the women's basketball team at their NCAA tournament game at Maryland against Georgetown.  Even though Princeton loss, it was a unique opportunity for the girls to attend the game. 


The Tigers return to action this Sunday in their home opener against Marist at 12:30 pm (DH).
