Opening Ivy Weekend

The Tigers opened up Ivy League play at home this past weekend by sweeping Dartmouth and then dropping two to Harvard. Alex Peyton pitched the game one shutout against the Big Green, giving up four hits and striking out 5. After 5 scoreless innings, the Tiger offense rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the 6^th inning off of 5 singles and a walk to seal the win. The Tiger’s took game two from the Big Green 5-2. Peyton had 3 RBI for the Tigers off a home run in the 1^st and a double in the 3^rd. Princeton’s other 2 runs came when Candy Button scored on a wild pitch in the 2^nd and Kelsey VandeBergh was scored on a sac fly from Cara Worden in the 3^rd. Liza Kuhn pitched game two, giving up 2 runs and striking out 4.

The Tigers’ attempt to make a comeback in game one against Harvard fell just short as they took the 5-6 loss. The Crimson got a 4 run lead in the 3^rdoff a grand slam and added a run in both the 5^th and 7^thinnings. The Tigers put 3 runs on the board in the 5^th off an RBI double from Alyssa Schmidt, a run-scoring ground out from VandeBergh and a solo home run from Peyton. Nicole Ontiveros led off the bottom of the 7^thwith a bunt single. VandeBergh followed with a single to right field and Peyton walked to load the bases. Worden singled through the right side, scoring 2 runs putting the Tigers within one. The Crimson was able to end the threat and the game with a ground out and strike out. Harvard took game two from the Tigers 0-8, scoring runs in the 2^nd, 3^rd, 5^thand 7^th. Button and Peyton each had 2 of Princeton’s 5 hits.

The Tigers sit 2-2 after the first weekend of Ivy League games and will host Seton Hall on Tuesday for a double header at 3:30 pm before they travel to Yale and Brown this weekend to wrap up play against the North Division.
