Capital Classic

Nicole Ontiveros '12

The Tigers faced Akron in their first game of the Capital Classic.  Nicole Ontiveros got things going in the top of the 1st with a lead off single to right field.  Alyssa Schmidt followed with a single of her own and Kelsey VandeBergh sac bunted them over the 2nd and 3rd.  Alex Peyton came up with an RBI single through the right side to put the Tigers up 1-0.  Princeton added antoher run in the 3rd with a solo home run from Ontiveros.  The Zips evened it up in the bottom of the 3rd scoring 2 runs off of 3 hits and a Tiger throwing error.  Akron scored the go ahead run in the 4th with 2 outs off an RBI infield single.  Princeton stranded a runner in scoring postion in the final 3 innings and fell to the Zips 3-2.

Princeton picked up a come from behind win against Colorado State in their second game.  The Tigers gave up a run to the Rams in the 1st and 2nd innings, falling behing 2-0.  Tory Roberts led off the 3rd with a single to left field.  Rachel Rendina bunted for a single two batters later then Ontiveros grounded out, advancing the runners to 2nd and 3rd.  Schmidt then blasted her first pitch over the left field fence for a 3 run homer.  Colorado State responded and tied it up in the bottom of the 3rd.  Rendina led off the 5th with a single to center field and Ontiveros follwed with her second home run of the day, putting the Tigers up 5-3.  Liza Kuhn got the win, pitching a career high 10 strikeouts.

The Tigers wrapped up the Capital Classic today with a loss to Sac State.  The Hornets put together 2 big run innings with their bats and capitalized on multiple Tiger miscues to get the 10-1 win.  Princeton's lone run came from an Ontiveros lead off double followed by a Schmidt sacrifice fly.

The Tigers will take on Cal on Tuesday at 3 pm and St. Mary's in a double header on Wednesday at 1:00 pm.
